DEBUG MODE – Call of Juarez: Gunslinger

review | october 2014 | runtime: 8:13 | 1080p

Description

Back in 2014 I decided to start a video series discussing video games. I haven’t been as productive as I’d like since. It turns out it’s an awful lot of work to play the game, write about it, capture and edit the footage, and go back and capture more footage to illustrate your script.

I’d made one game review video before, but with Debug Mode I wanted to dig a little deeper than traditional “reviews.” In the years since, I’ve moved away from the idea of a “review” format, but this is how it began.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger isn’t a particularly great game, but that’s kind what made it interesting to talk about. The thing that made this otherwise unremarkable shooter special was the framing device of an unreliable narrator. That was a fun idea. If the rest of the game had been that creative, more people would have heard about this game.
